Electronics & Telecommunication

The Department of Electronics and Telecommunication (ETC) was established in the year 1999 with a sanctioned intake of 60 along with the establishment of institute. With an emphasis on Telecommunication sector by the then government and the global technological development carried out at that time by the researchers in the developed countries for reliable and fast communication, the institute took an initiative to commence the UG program in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. Realizing the huge requirement by government & private organizations and industries, based on global projections, the department applied for starting the second shift for UG program in ETC engineering with intake of 60 in 2010-2011, for which the approval was obtained from AICTE and Shivaji University, Kolhapur. The post graduate program in ETC engineering was started with an intake of 18 in the academic year 2011-2012 which has obtained a good response from the students in the current and last academic year. A new post graduate program in "VLSI and Embedded Systems" with an intake of 18 has been started from the academic year 2013-2014 which is the first of its type in Shivaji University, Kolhapur area.

The department has a good blend of experienced and young faculty which works as a team to strengthen the department. The department has adequate PG faculty approved by Shivaji University. Few faculties of the department are pursuing their doctoral work. Almost all faculty members have published papers in journals/conferences while few faculties have published book in their area of interest. The department has goal to get an approval as Ph. D and research center. The department is equipped with good infrastructure which consists of class room with multimedia facility, well developed laboratories with state-of-the‚Äďart equipments, learning software and departmental library etc. The high end equipments available for UG/PG students include Microwave Bench, Spectrum analyzer, DSOs, MIC laboratory trainer kits, NETSIM, MATLAB software etc. to carryout projects/dissertation in the areas of Electronics and Telecommunication.

The internet and LAN facility with 40 Mbps is available in networking lab and also to all faculty members through Wi-Fi accessibility. The support staff is well-qualified and is given in house training to develop them for maintaining laboratory equipments as well as for smooth conduct of laboratory sessions. The department has produced consistently good results. In last twelve batches, few students have secured ranks in university merit list. Such students are encouraged by the institute by awarding them cash prizes as a token of appreciation. The department has produced about 750 graduates so far out of which about 30% are having good positions in the reputed organizations. 10%-20% students get on campus employment while 50-60% students get off campus placement after the final year of their graduation. About 10% students opt for higher studies. The department is very active in organizing extra-curricular and cocurricular activities with the students' organization "Students' Perky Association of Communication Engineers (SPACE)". The department organizes every year paper presentation event in "Discovery" while project competition and programming competition in "Profest" for which the department has been receiving an overwhelming response from the students of our college as well as of other colleges. An annual gathering helps them to exhibit their cultural and artistic skills while an annual alumni meet helps them to meet the seniors placed in various organizations and get the guidelines from them to prepare themselves for placement.
